Originally from Baffin Island in Nunavut, Manasie Akpaliapik began carving as a child and became a professional carver in the 1980s. He excels in stone carving, with some of his works being masterfully carved in Brazilian soapstone, dolomite or marble.
With over 50 incomparable sculptures, Manasie Akpaliapik's collection is the most important in existence. The Musée National des Beaux-Arts presents a selection of 40 sculptures created between 1997 and 2003 from the imagination of the great artist.
